Terms of Service

Last updated: 22 October 2026

1. Purpose of MedVerify

MedVerify is a platform that allows authorised healthcare practitioners registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) or another relevant regulatory body to issue medical certificates, and allows recipients of those certificates to verify their authenticity.

2. Eligibility

Only practitioners whose professional registration has been independently verified by MedVerify may issue certificates. Verification is a manual review process that requires the practitioner to provide truthful evidence of their professional registration. Providing false or misleading evidence of professional registration is a serious breach of these terms and may result in immediate suspension and referral to relevant authorities.

3. Prohibited uses

You may not use MedVerify to:

4. Practitioner responsibilities

Practitioners are solely responsible for the accuracy of the information they enter about patients, the clinical basis for any certificate they issue, and compliance with all applicable professional and legal obligations, including POPIA and their professional body's code of conduct. MedVerify does not provide clinical services and does not verify the medical accuracy of any certificate.

5. Certificate status and revocation

A certificate may be marked revoked by its issuing practitioner. Public verification reflects the current stored status of a certificate but does not constitute a legal opinion as to its validity. Recipients of a certificate are encouraged to verify both the certificate reference and the six-digit PIN.

6. Service availability

MedVerify aims to be available at all times but is provided on an "as is" basis. We are not liable for any loss arising from unavailability, delay, or technical error. We may suspend the platform for maintenance, security, or legal reasons.

7. Suspension and termination

We may suspend or terminate any account that violates these terms, that has been flagged by an administrator, or that is associated with suspected fraud, forgery, or impersonation. Deletion of an account does not remove historical certificate records that must be retained for legal or audit reasons.

8. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by South African law, MedVerify, its operators, and its hosting providers are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential loss arising from the use of the platform, including reliance on any certificate or verification result.

9. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa.

10. Changes

We may update these terms. Continued use of the platform after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
